Saturday, July 15th 2017, on the “Redentore” night, one of the festivities most felt by the Venetians, our chef propose a typical dinner in our garden restaurant. This privileged location enjoys views of the lagoon, an ideal place to appreciate the fireworks.
The Hamlet of Malamocco has been one of the first populated areas of the lagoon. The name firstly was Metamauco and it was a little part of territory where started to live settlers coming from Padua which was destroyed by the Longobard people in 600 a.C. In 742, thanks to its strategic position, Metamauco became the Venetian episcopal seat, where stayed also the Doge. Some years later, due to the fight with the French Pipino, the seat has been moved in a safer area of the lagoon, choosing the Rivo Alto island (where today there is the Rialto Bridge): in this way born Venice.

One of the most famous Venetian tradition that is transmitted from many centuries is that one of venetian rowing, a sport that is still practiced and see many participants at the regattas. The most spectacular ones are the Regata Storica, that occurs every year on the first Sunday of September and the Vogalonga world-wide famous and with a significant history for the city.
To visit the northernmost area of the island, called San Nicolò, I suggest you to rent a bicycle and to explore it with eyes ready to capture the details of the houses in the typical Lido's Liberty style which characterize them. Don’t be fooled by the black and white photos, neither by the melancholy feelings that gives the sea during the cold season: “The Winter Sea Really Exists” wants to show exactly the opposite, how does the life along the seashore continues all along the greyer months of the year. The chilly air awakens the senses and makes the cheeks blush, the beach is full of life with people running, having a walk and flying kytes, the sea water lashes and the bravest ones take a bath or, at least, dip a foot in the cold water.
